Formulating a hypothesis
I just had a lovely lunch with two former co-workers. (Sorta. I worked there for such a short period of time that we barely count as co-workers.) And it got me to thinking.
I think maybe Digital Dog is to the Nashville web industry what Kevin Bacon is to Hollywood.
The analogy only goes so far, because I’ve never heard that Kevin Bacon drives the people that work with him crazy. But just as when you play a “six degrees” game, you can always join movie people through Kevin Bacon, I doubt there’s a web professional in Nashville who’s more than a few degrees away from Digital Dog.
In fact, I think it should be a drinking game. Who’s in?

The website is still the same as when it got redesigned when I was there……in 2000.

I was there a few years ago…about 20 to 25 people rotate through those doors in my last year and a half there….good times

years ago, at a networking thing for designers, I met a couple of people that worked there…
they were “those people” — the kind that give artists and computer people a bad name. The kind that take design and computers WAY too seriously. They made me cringe and I felt like saying “dude, your websites aren’t curing cancer.”

I’m in. 4 hours total time interviewing. 99% of that was all Larry talking about himself and how great he is. I think he picked up I saw through his bullshnizzle. “Flash is where the web is going”. I kefpt thinking… No, mobile apps is where the web is going but I’m not telling you that because A. you won’t stop talking long enough inhale B. you wouldn’t believe me anyway.

(Of course, some of the interconnectedness might have something to do with a certain huge hospital company that employs a lot of people in Nashville, too.

I worked there for 1 year almost to the date. I had to get out of there before I did something I would regret. After I worked 11 hours on the Monday of Laborday that year I knew I had to get out. But what really got me was when LB would scream at everyone to help him find his car keys before he raced out the door for a client meeting. That and always calling some of my female coworkers “crack whores.” 8 years ago and I’m still venting about it.

I’m moving to Nashville and i have an interview there. Any thoughts? Why all the negative comments? What is their pay rate like?

Hi, its not the pay rate you need to worry about. Its the owner. He has the ability to drive anyone crazy. The stress in that place is amazing. I worked overtime nearly every day til 7 or 8 most of the time, but much much later sometimes too.
Ask him about his turnover rate, not just who have been fire, but those that quit too. Just a warning, ask a lot of questions about the environment, is there a yearly raise or bonus structure, how much overtime is expected. I would also recommend talking to the employees. Do your homework, I’m thinking there is probably more than this article out on the internet that is about DDI.

You are right. I did some more research on the internet and there was a whole lot more about LB. Crazy! I’m so glad I did my homework and found out how crazy this place is. I’m def. not going to work there.
Anyone have any other suggestions for places to work in Nashville? I dont have a great amount of skills but I am a hard worker and willing to start at the bottom to get to the top!
