Oh no!

OK, this is really, incredibly stupid, but I’m such a Hall and Oates fanatic that I giggled at it anyway.

Gay Divorce; Hall and Oates Split
San Diego, California (SP) — Rockers Daryl Hall and John Oates have announced they are ‘Gay Divorcing’.

Artist representatives for both sides say they have reached an amicable agreement. Hall, in an interview in US Weekly, said that “Although he cares deeply for John, he would never actually have homosexual relations with him, so it was a decision they reached together”.

In fact, that’s about all that’s worth reading in that piece, so don’t even bother clicking.

Oh, but wait… can I just say how much I love this image? Hee!

But it’s such a gay cover.

Oh, I know, I know. I remember getting that album (and I do mean album, not CD!) when I was a kid and my parents exchanging a rather nervous glance.

I also should’ve known I was a bit, um, gender-indifferent when my reaction to seeing it was “Wow, Daryl is hot as a man or or a woman, but John’s still a dog.”

(And while we’re on the subject: great album. I mean, “Sara Smile”? Wow. I remember writing the lyrics to that song out and just studying them to try to figure out how they’d made my neck tingle. Of course, I was almost completely missing the point: it was Daryl’s smooth vocals that made that song sexy.)

(OK, I’m not done yet. “Gino (The Manager)”? I always get that “you couldn’t live without little Gi-no-no” section stuck in my head. And “Ennui On The Mountain” — how many pop songs can get away with using the word “ennui” in the title? And “Soldering” is probably one of the few songs I really enjoy where John Oates sings lead.)

      (OK, I’m done now.)

I love them too and I’m not afraid to say so. :-P But I must admit that some of the videos were so “unmacho.”

I always hoped that when they toured, rather than Oates getting Hall’s rejects and castoffs, he had his own little contingency of fans with t-shirts reading…..

      It’s in my karaoke repertoire.

OK, I’ll admit I find that a little ewww, but only because I’ve always felt such repulsion for John. Otherwise it’s totally cute. :-)

Really? OK, I’m curious. I mean, I haven’t heard you sing yet, but based on your speaking voice I’d assume you sound very different from Daryl. Although now I remember you saying that you tried to emulate his singing… so maybe it’s not so different. Huh! I’m very curious.

Where do they do karaoke around here? We’re going!

Oh, please — you know you’re loving it. ;-)

Better yet, why don’t you just sing it for me sometime and accompany yourself on the guitar? I’d be way more impressed. :-) Especially since a) you’d have to be awful and croaky for me not to love “Sara Smile” and b) guitar accompaniment is way smoother than karaoke.

And to show my appreciation, I’ll… hmm. I certainly don’t think my singing could be considered a reward, so I’ll make you dinner or something. :-)

      Oh hell…

I’d have to learn it on guitar first. And, these days your singing is probably MUCH better than my lack of virtuousity on guitar.

I am so embarassing here in Nashville.

It’s what happens when you quit playing for five years.

I too find John unswoonworthy but I’ve always felt he got the short end of the fame stick in that duo and I root for the underdog. Come to think of it, I never found Darryl Hall that hot. Not a big fan of blondes.

Heh. I don’t know what my excuse is: I’ve never been all that into blondes either. But Daryl, ooh. :-)

Yeah, the voice is definitely swoonworthy. I can just imagine him singing something to me with an acoustic guitar and getting dreamy eyed.

I had no idea they were “together”. Hilarious!
