Sick and wanting to run

Think I’m a little sick. I have a wheezy cough, some head congestion, and major fatigue.

Maybe this business with my knee has just worn me the hell out.

Speaking of which, I did get on the elliptical machine this morning, and even at a low incline and low resistance, my knee hurt. So I got off and did some stretches and got back on. It was a little better, so I managed 20 minutes. Barely a respectable cardiovascular workout, but dammit, I did it.

Do you know about the history of the marathon? According to legend, the marathon commemorates the run by Pheidippides in 490 B.C. announcing the news of Greek victory over the Persians. He covered the roughly 26-mile distance between Marathon and Athens, announced the news (”Niki!” or “Victory!”) … then collapsed and died of exhaustion.

And I’m complaining about a little knee pain?

Sorry to hear about the ouchsome knee issues. I know firsthand what a nuisance it is for that particular joint to be acting out :-). Good for you for stretching and exercising; I’ve always sucked at that (probably why I still HAVE knee problems).

hi, Kate. Do I know you? I can’t tell from your picture. But you put me on your friends list, so I put you on mine :o)

No, we don’t know each other. But LJ is such a strange place: anyone you want to get to know automatically gets promoted to “friend” just by virtue of your deciding, “Hey, ya know, I’d like to read what that person has to say for a while and see what they’re about.”

I did a search on folks near Nashvegas and read a few entries from some of the more recently-updated journals. Yours was one of the more articulate and engaging, so I thought I’d follow your public adventures for a while. Nice to be on your friends list too, though! :-)

Do you ever do the LJ meetups or anything?

No, I’ve never done a meet-up because all the people in my LJ are friends I have met elsewhere (except one now!) But I like to run, too, maybe we’ll see each other out running and be like…man, she looks really familiar, who is that?

I usually run around the Vandy area though, have never run in Belle Meade like you said you did in your lj. It’s a beautiful area, though, maybe I will, but I’ll watch out for my knees!

Belle Meade is a nice run (but yeah, watch out for those sloped roads!) but where I usually run is Centennial Park. I just do the mile loop over and over and over. :-)

How about you? Where around Vandy do you run? Is there a good course or path, or are you running on streets and/or sidewalks?

I don’t know of any paths, I usually just run on the sidewalk (I know, majorly bad for knees and feet, etc, but no choice). I run my own extended version of the Vandy Loop. I love it, though, the loop. I guess ’cause it’s familiar and I always see the same runners. I make up names for them. Like beer hat guy. Way-too-skinny-girl. Old-guy-who-keeps-passing-me-then-slowing-down. Boy-with-giant-headphones. Smiley-lady.

      They are my friends! :o)
