Um, wow!

Edmonton police are trying to better understand discrimination by walking around holding hands in non-gay neighborhoods. The cops said they felt intense awareness of their own security, especially when walking by a construction crew.

Is that the Canadian Edmonton? (i.e. Alberta?) I think there’s one in the UK, probably a few in the US. Maybe even elsewhere in Canada, as well. Just askin’.

I don’t know. The other sentence in the news brief says

The co-ordinator of the exercise, Constable Steve Camp, says it’s the first exercise of its kind and was highly successful.

So it’s not the US. Do they call police leaders “constable” in Canada?

It’s Canada. I googled for “constable steve camp edmonton police” and came back with this:

      http://216.239.39.104/search?q=cache:-gtWYuQvOm8J:www.edmontonpolicecommission.com/reports/minutes/jan2003min.pdf+constable+steve+camp+edmonton+police&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

which includes a reference to Edmonton, Alberta.

      Cool, huh?

I wonder if they were doing it in their uniforms, or in street clothes?

This, to me, is a sign of a civilised society. Rock on Edmonton police!
