49. Saving Private Ryan (1998) ... She says, even though she owns a copy of Pulp Fiction. I know, I know: I can't explain the difference. Or, well, I could, but it'd sound like a rationalization.
...
72. Reservoir Dogs (1992) I respect Tarantino and would love to see this, but I'm sure it's too brutal for me.

I absolutely see a difference between violence in movies like SPR, and those like Tarantino's. I can't stand violent movies in general. Haven't seen SPR (I tend to avoid Spielberg movies), and didn't make it more than 20 minutes into Apocalypse Now, but I *love* Tarantino's films. There's something about it that's very much like comic books. It's the realistic/historic violence that I can't stomach, nor do I see the point of making myself sit through.

I do think Reservoir Dogs is one of the harder ones of Tarantino's to stomach, because there is an aura of realism due to the low budget.

I was proud of myself when I made it all the way through Kill Bill, and only had to look away from the screen once.

On the other hand, the relationship between the main characters in The Professional made me terribly squeamish. There's no violence in the relationship itself, but something hit a button somewhere for me. I'm not sure I've ever had such a strong negative reaction to the content of a film, and I've never found another person who feels the same way as me about this one.

Oh well. Go figure.
