Whatever episode it was when Donna had a date with someone Josh decided was all wrong for her because he said so, that seemed to be a pretty clear indication of his affection for her. I guess it wasn't "Gunmen," but since we watched about four episodes in a row, they sort of ran together a bit. :-)

It's funny, but the reactions to that episode from people who have read my stories first seem to fall into two categories: "Man, I would *never* have looked at it that way based on this" and "Oh, my god, that part was from the *show*?" *grinning* It's always interesting to see which one various people fall into.

For me it was the "Lisa and I are getting married in September" scene. I just couldn't find a way to interpret that any other way than them having been lovers once, and then once I'd looked at *that* scene in that light, on a second viewing a whole lot of other things looked that way to me. I've since heard another explanation that works for me -- that Josh had had a thing with *Lisa* that was now over -- but at the time, I couldn't find a way to interpret it as "just friends."

As for Josh and Donna, what I see in "Gunmen" is *Donna* realizing she's in love with *Josh*. I see nothing that indicates that he feels the same way about her. I think there are other indications in canon that he's attracted to her (and I think I write them that way), but I don't see it in "Gunmen" at all.

I'm shocked. Simply shocked! Haven't you seen "Take It Further", Kate? Don't you know about milk? Blood and pus, Kate! BLOOD and PUS!!! ;-)

Sounds like a little hedonism, though I'm with J.- I think this should maybe be the warm-up to the real hedonism, which could be some belgian milk chocolate, some brie and pecorino romano, baked goods, and a vintage french wine... Ohhh, yeah...

Colour me as mildly horrified that if you were going to backslide, you were going to do it with Milky Way instead of, say, Milka. ;-)

Well, I didn't get to request the varieties of my boss' boss' sons Halloween candy in advance, so... ;-)

By the way, what did you think of "In the Shadow of Two Gunmen" (the two-hour episode about the shooting)? You promised ages ago to tell me what your impressions were if I sent you the tape!

Right! I was riveted. I'll have to say, right off though, that neither <lj user="toastytuft"> nor I could see any kind of chemistry between Sam and Josh. Josh and Donna, definitely. But with Sam and Josh, we both got the impression that they were just straight friends. Not even "I'd take a bullet for you" kinds of friends -- just friends.

But that's neither here nor there. We really enjoyed the writing and direction of the show in general, and I thought the handling of the "Gunmen" episodes -- especially the nonlinear sequences -- was great.

I was trying to remember the details you wrote in, but it was a little fuzzy. Still, most of it seemed familiar, so you must have captured it. I felt like I knew the characters, so that's all there in your stories.

It's weird, because even though it's obvious that these are the same stories, it's like they're really different. As if the same materials were used, but with totally different results. And that was really interesting -- and both of them very good and very engaging.
